SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – USF will head north to take on the MSU Moorhead Dragons during their homecoming weekend this Saturday, October 14 at SCHEELS Field at Nemzek Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 12pm in Moorhead, Minnesota.

 

COUGARS v. DRAGONS HISTORY

Sioux Falls historically holds a 5-0 series record over Moorhead dating back to their first matchup in 2012.

The Coo are 3-0 on the road against the Dragons with their largest victory coming in 2014 when USF took a 73-21 road win from MSU Moorhead.

During their most recent matchup to open the 2022 season, Sioux Falls walked away with a 27-14 victory. Adam Mullen completed 24-of-40 passes for 309 yards and a score while Nick Hernandez went 3-for-3 in point after attempts while splitting the uprights twice. The Cougar D forced 12 tackles for loss including eight sacks on the Dragons.

 

THE COUGAR FILE

USF heads north following a 35-28 win over Concordia – St. Paul and currently sits 3-3 on the season and 2-1 on the road.

Dylan Rudningen continues to lead USF in rushing with 501 yards and six rushing touchdowns thus far followed by Camden Dean with 333 yards and five scores. Matt Grzybowski is the teams third leading rusher with three touchdowns on the season while averaging 4.0 yards a carry.

Dean leads the team with 998 yards on the season while completing 90-of-127 passes. Dean has thrown six touchdown passes on the season followed by Mullen with three. Mullen has also recorded 277 yards on the season while completing 30-of-50 pass attempts.

Carter Slykhuis and Mark Leonard sit atop the receiving chart with Slykhuis totaling 465 yards on 42 receptions along with three touchdowns following a career high game against CSP last weekend. Leonard has recorded 227 yards on 20 receptions along with one score thus far .

Eli Schlangen has recorded a team high of 36 tackles on the season followed by freshmen Matt Goehring with 31 and Garret Hoffman with 28.

Amaurii Grosskopf stands with five tackles for a loss of 20 yards and a sack for a loss of 11 yards on the season. Brady Crawford follows close being with 3.0 tackles for loss and 1 sack on the season.

 

THE DRAGON FILE

MSU Moorhead is coming off a 24-21 loss against #4 Minnesota State last weekend and has been led by quarterback Jack Strand and running backs Luke Imdieke and Tyson Powell. Strand has thrown for 2,235 yards and 22 touchdowns this season while completing 217 passes on 326 attempts averaging 372.5 yards a game. Imdieke has rushed for 149 yards on 26 carriers while averaging 24.83 yards a game all while Powell has recorded three TDs on the ground.

The Dragons have found success through the air with Gage Florence and Carter Birrenkott leading the receiving game with over 500 yards apiece. Florence has recorded 65 receptions for 580 yards and five touchdowns while Birrenkott has tallied 30 receptions for 531 yards and six touchdowns.

Defensively, Josiah Behm leads Moorhead with 45 tackles and a pass break up along with a QB hurry and a forced fumble. The Dragons has given up just 143 points this season while forcing 210 on their opponents.
