BURNSVILLE, MINN. – The NSIC announced their weekly Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week selection today with USF 5th year swimmer Valerie Childs winning Swimmer of the Week.
Childs excelled in USF's first meet of the season. She recorded 3 first place finishes and finished 2nd once. She swam times of 53.19 in the 100 freestyle and 1:55.20 in the 200 freestyle. Valerie was also part of the 400 freestyle relay that swam a time of 3:35.51, and was the top individual scorer in USF's victories over #16 Augustana and St. Cloud State. She also leads the NSIC in three events: 100 free, 200 free, and 400 free relay. Following this first meet Valerie sits in the top-10 nationally in each event she won this past weekend.
The Cougar swim team was dominant during their first meet last Thursday, sweeping #16 Augustana 167-127 and St. Cloud State 187-107.
The Cougars will be back in action Saturday, October 7. They will be swimming against Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall. The meet starts at 2:00PM and will take place in the Don Palm Natatorium on the campus of SMSU.
