SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls women's swimming team returned to competition for the first time since the semester break on Friday afternoon, hosting Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State at the USF Triangular inside the Midco Aquatic Center. The Cougars dropped both duals on the day, falling 262.50–108.50 to Minnesota State and 210–150 to Southwest Minnesota State, but showed steady improvement as the meet progressed.
Despite early rust, USF posted several event wins and strong top-three finishes across the afternoon, using the meet as an important step back into race conditions with championship season approaching.
How It Happened
The Cougars found momentum as the meet went on, highlighted by multiple individual victories in the middle and distance events. Charlotte Gibbs anchored the lineup with wins in the 100 IM, 100 butterfly, and 150 freestyle, continuing her strong season with consistent front-end speed. Alessia Moro and Kalina Zaharieva provided a one-two punch in the distance events, finishing first and second in the 1000 freestyle, while Moro also claimed the top spot in the longest race of the day.
Irene Paris was a bright spot in the fly and IM group, winning the 150 butterfly and adding a third-place finish in the 200 IM. Weronika Mrozek added another individual victory for USF by taking first in the 250 freestyle, while Charlie Twose turned in runner-up finishes in both the 300 IM and 100 butterfly.
Head Coach Rickey Perkins noted the growth throughout the meet as the team settled back into competition.
"It was a solid effort. You could tell that it has been a while since we last competed. We were a bit rusty at the start, but each race got better."
USF continued to improve as the afternoon progressed, with multiple swimmers moving up the results sheet in the second half of the meet and strong efforts in the back half of races.
