Kansas City, MO. – The University of Sioux Falls Men's Basketball team started their 2023-24 campaign with an 82-80 loss to Washburn. This game was part of the Central Region Challenge taking place in the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
The Cougars and the Ichabods were neck and neck throughout the game starting with USF winning the first half 39-38. The Cougars shot 56% from the field and 66% from 3 in the first half. The Coo held Washburn to only 46% shooting and 50% from 3. USF outrebounded Washburn in the first half 18-10, but the Ichabods forced 16 Cougar turnovers and led in points in the paint 20-16.
The tight matchup continued in the 2nd half with USF shooting 43% from the field while Washburn turned it up a notch shooting 51% from the field. The Cougars outrebounded the Ichabods 37-29 for the game but the rebounding was tied at 19 for the 2nd half. USF had 21 turnovers for the game compared to Washburn's 16, but the Ichabods got a ton of production from their bench outscoring the USF bench 31-16.
LEADERS
Kenji Scales led USF with 22 points and Creighton Morisch was right behind him with 18 points. Jack Thompson also chipped in 13 points for the Coo
Noah Puetz tied for the game high in assists with 7. Jake Kettner was second for USF with 3 assists.
Creighton Morisch led both teams in rebounds with 14 giving him his first double-double of his USF career. Shawn Warrior added 5 boards and Zane Alm and Noah Puetz each had 4 rebounds on the day.
