Cougars claim 4th at NSIC Swim Championships; Spaans wins Outstanding Senior of the Year Award

FARGO, ND - USF claims 4th place for the 2nd year in a row at the NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships. The Cougars have finished top-four for six straight years.
 
Outstanding Senior of the Year
The Cougars 5th year swimmer, Elizabeth Spaans, wins the 2023 NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year award. Spaans has had an incredible career at USF filled with numerous recognitions and awards. This year Spaans was named USF's Swimmer to Watch for the second straight year after being invited to her 4th NCAA DII Championship meet last year. This year she claimed 6 event victories & was the runner up in 4 more during the Cougars regular season. Through her five trips to the NSIC Championships, Lizzy was part of 10 team or individual NSIC event victories.
 
Spaans also owns the USF record in the 200 IM (2:03.41) and the second fastest USF mark in the 400 IM (4:38.09). She was named to the NSIC Academic Team of Excellence three times, received the NSIC's Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award, was named a D2 ADA Academic Achievement Recipient and has been named a CSCAA All-American.

With the NSIC Championship over, USF will await news from the NCAA on which swimmers will move on to the NCAA Championships based on their B standard times. The NCAA Championships will take place in Indianapolis, IN at the IU Natatorium from March 8th to March 11th.
