TOPEKA – The University of Sioux Falls Softball team split on day two of the Washburn Invite as they took on Central Missouri and Emporia State. Sioux Falls defeated the Jennies of UCM 5-3, but fell to Emporia State 13-4.
GAME 1 – CENTRAL MISSOURI
USF opened the day against Central Missouri and quickly jumped out in front in the top of the second as the Cougars took an early 3-0 lead.
Taryn Wagner scored first for Sioux Falls after she found herself on base following a walk and a stolen base.
Megan Lawson led the Cougars at the plate today with four at bats and three hits. Lawson crossed the plate twice against the Jennies and had a season high game batting average of a .583.
Kait Van Der Zwaag captured her first victory of the season in the circle today pitching five strikeouts in seven innings. Her defense held strong while she forced 11 fly outs and five ground outs
GAME 2 – EMPORIA STATE
Sioux Falls fell to Emporia State today, but despite hardships they were able to force four runs off of five hits while only leaving three runners on the base path.
Kennedy Thomas and Kait Van Der Zwaag shared five innings on the mound. Thomas saw 3.0 innings on the mound and moves to 1-1 on the year.

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Newman and Fort Hays State in day three of the Washburn Invitational.
