GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Cougars women's tennis team secured their third consecutive victory with their first conference sweep of the season. Sioux Falls secured wins over Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State this weekend moving to 4-3 in the NSIC.
MATCH ONE – MINNESOTA CROOKSTON
The Cougars took on UMC last night in Grand Forks, North Dakota where they came away with a 6-1 victory over the Golden Eagles. Coach Kevin Grebin described his teams win as "smart and strong" when asked about last night's match. USF secured their 11th team victory over UMC and move to a series record of 11-0.
Sioux Falls picked up the doubles point where Talia Janos and Danielle Thorfinnson picked up a 6-1 victory followed by Allissa Thorfinnson and Jaelyn Haler pairing up for another 6-1 victory of their own.
USF secured the match when they had five athletes pick up single victories. Danielle Thorfinnson, Sydney Osburn, Ella Hancock, Katelyn Nesheim and Emma Rangel each came away with victories for the Cougars.
MATCH TWO – BEMIDJI STATE
Sioux Falls advanced to 9-4 on the year following a 5-2 win over Bemidji State. Following today's win, the Cougars move to a six game win streak over the Beavers with an overall series record of 12-1.
Talia Janos and Danielle Thorfinnson once again secured a 6-1 victory followed by Emma Rangel and Brianna Holm with a 6-4 win. The two doubles teams combined to give USF an early 1-0 lead.
The Cougars saw four victories come in the singles portion of today's match with wins by Danielle Thorfinnson, Ella Hancock, Emily Thinnsen and Katelyn Nesheim.
WEEKEND RECAP
D. Thorfinnson went 2-0 on the weekend and moves her singles record to 3-4 on the year. She paired up with Janos in the doubles portion of the weekend as they extended their winning streak to three with a season record of 3-2 as a pair.
Osburn went 1-0 on the weekend and moves to 8-4 in singles on the year.
Hancock also picked up her third consecutive victory while going 2-0 on the weekend in singles and moving to 7-5 on the year.
Nesheim continues her hot streak with seven consecutive singles match victories. She is now 7-3 on the year following her 2-0 weekend.
Rangel also went 1-0 with a win during the UMC match. She advances to a three match win streak and a 4-5 season record. Rangel also went 1-0 in doubles while she paired up with Holm for a 6-4 victory during their Bemidji State appearance.
Thinnsen advanced to 6-3 on the year in singles after going 1-0 on the weekend
