Cougar Tennis Sweeps Their Final Conference Road Series of the Season

WINONA, MINN. – The Cougars women's tennis team continue their success with another weekend sweep over Winona State and Upper Iowa. Sioux Falls is now 11-4 on the season and 6-3 in the NSIC.

MATCH ONE – WINONA STATE

The Cougars took on the Warriors last night in Winona, Minnesota where they came away with a 5-2 victory. Coach Kevin Grebin described last night's win as a "total team effort." USF secured their first win against WSU in three seasons and move to a series record of 4-9 against the Warriors.

Sioux Falls went 2-1 in the doubles portion of last night's match with Sydney Osburn and Ella Hancock picking up a 6-4 victory followed by Katelyn Nesheim and Emma Rangel with a 6-4 victory of their own.

USF secured the match when they had four athletes pick up single victories. Sydney Osburn, Ella Hancock, Emily Thinnsen and Katelyn Nesheim all swept their opponents in two sets.

MATCH TWO – UPPER IOWA

Sioux Falls defeated Upper Iowa 6-1 tonight after falling to the Peacocks 5-2 last season. Following today's win, the Cougars move to a series record of 5-7 against the Peacocks.

The Cougars swept the doubles portion of tonight's match with Danielle Thorfinnson and Katelyn Nesheim picked up a 6-3 victory followed by a 6-0 victory by Sydney Osburn and Ella Hancock. Emily Thinnsen and Talia Janos took their match by forfeit to secure the doubles sweep for the Coo.

The Cougars saw five singles victories tonight with Sydney Osburn and Emily Thinnsen sweeping their opponents in two sets while Ella Hancock defeated her opponent in three. Katelyn Nesheim and Emma Rangel both took their match by forfeit.

WEEKEND RECAP

Osburn went 4-0 on the weekend with two doubles victories and two singles victories. She moves to 10-4 in singles on the year and 5-5 in doubles.

Hancock also picked up her fifth consecutive victory while going 2-0 on the weekend in singles and moving to 9-5 on the year. Her and Osburn sit at 5-5 in doubles on the season.

Nesheim continues her hot streak with nine consecutive singles match victories. She is now 9-3 on the year following her 2-0 weekend. She also went 2-0 in doubles on the weekend to move to 5-5 on the year.

Rangel also went 1-0 with a win during the UIU match. She advances to a four match win streak and a 5-5 season record. Rangel also went 1-0 in doubles while she paired up with Nesheim for a 6-4 victory during their Winona State appearance.

Thinnsen advanced to three match win streak and 8-3 on the year in singles following her weekend performance.

UP NEXT

The Cougars return home next weekend as they host St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth in their final NSIC matches of the season.
