SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – USF softball dropped two games against Minnesota Duluth earlier today falling to 8-21 on the season and 9-11 in NSIC play.
GAME 1 – L, 6-1
Sioux Falls jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kait Van Der Zwaag doubled to center field. Kennedy Thomas followed suit whit her own double to give the Cougars their only run of game one.
Minnesota Duluth tacked on three runs in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to seal a 6-1 victory over the Cougars.
Van Der Zwaag started in the circle for Sioux Falls before Thomas took over in the top of the fourth.
GAME 2 – L, 4-3
Duluth jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Makenzie Weber hit a bases clearing single. With an error by the right fielder and the bases loaded, Weber tied the game at four apiece headed into the sixth.
With a run scored in the top of the seventh by the Bulldogs, Sioux Falls was unable to recover as game two fell in favor of Duluth.
Hanna Cress pitched all seven innings for the Cougars while forcing five strikeouts and facing 33 batters.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action Monday, April 24, as they host St. Cloud State in another doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. with game two to follow at 1:00 p.m. The Cougars will also host SMSU in their final home matchup of the season on Thursday, April 27, for their annual Mental Health Awareness game. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. with game two starting at 12:00 p.m.
