Cougar Football Hits the Road to Take on the Marauders

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Cougar Football will hit the road for their first away series of the season against the University of Mary Marauders. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm at the Community Bowl in Bismarck, ND.

 

COUGARS v. MARAUDERS HISTORY

During their last outing, Mary took an early 21-13 lead over the Coo before halftime but with a big fourth quarter Sioux Falls ultimately came away with the 41-27 victory.

Saturday's matchup will be the seventh time the two programs will face each other with USF holding an overall 5-1 record over the Marauders dating back to 2013. USF picked up their first Division II victory against UMary in 2015 when they secured their largest victory of 55-7.

The Cougars have forced 217 points on the Marauders averaging 36.17 points every time the two kickoff. USF holds a 2-1 record against Mary on the road, but currently holds a five game winning streak since 2015.

 

THE COUGAR FILE

USF is coming off a tough loss to Minnesota State last week and is looking for their first win of the season as well as the Glogowski era. 

Last season the Cougars outscored their opponents 361-228 while averaging 32.82 points per game. Sioux Falls missed out on the playoffs after starting the season 7-0 followed by three losses from Winona State, Minnesota State and Wayne State and ending the 2022 season with a 50-6 win over Upper Iowa.

This season, the Coo have been led by junior running back Dylan Rudningen and sophomore transfer quarterback Camden Dean run and passing game. Rudningen ran for 58 yards last week against Minnesota State while Dean rushed for 48 yards, both recording the teams only rushing touchdowns. In the air, Dean completed 12-of-16 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown against the Mavericks.Travis Yohnke and Carter Slykhuis both pulled down touchdown passes last week while Mark Leonard paved the way with 91-yards receiving.

On the defensive side of the ball, Matt Goehring and Eli Schlangen led Sioux Falls with 10 tackles apiece last week. Michael Stenbroten, Amaurii Grosskopf and Ethan Schwab all recorded tackles for loss.

 

THE MARAUDER FILE

UMary is coming off a 38-7 loss against Augustana under former NFL player and new head coach, Shann Schillinger.

Last season, the Marauders went 2-9 while forcing 254 points on their opponents and giving up 357. This year, Mary has been led by freshman running back Andrew Trandahl and sophomore quarterback Sofian Massoud. Trandahl rushed for 28 yards against the Vikings this past weekend while Massoud rushed for 13-yards and threw for 92 with one touchdown. Junior wide receiver Mujeeb Rufai was the primary target for the Marauders against Augustana where he pulled in five receptions for 52 yards and the team's only touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, Reginald Morrow, Set Jarrett and Jakob Petry combined for 19 tackles with Jarrett pulling down the team's lone interception. The Marauders forced four tackles for a loss of eight yards last week while giving up seven tackles for a loss of 17-yards.
