Sioux Falls, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls Baseball team is proud to announce their 2024 recruiting class.
Head Coach Grant Hieb is very excited for what this class is going to bring to the table. "My coaching staff and I are very happy with the class we have coming in next year. We were able to land some good prep student-athletes along with some solid transfers. We believe we filled some of our needs on both sides of the ball and can't wait to start working with these student-athletes."
Caden Ransom is from Lincoln, Neb. and is the son of Kipp and Angie. He played both baseball and football at Lincoln Southwest High School. He starred on the diamond with a .370 batting average, 6 home runs, 13 doubles and 25 RBI. Ransom is a catcher and designated hitter and will be majoring in Sports Marketing and Media.
Coach Hieb said this about Ransom: "Caden is solid catcher with a big bat. We feel his best days are in front of him and could really help us on both sides of the ball."
Jackson Yeager is a first baseman coming to USF from McCook Community College. He is originally from Omaha, Neb. and is the son of Brian Yeager and Andrea Kaup. Yeager played both football and baseball at Omaha Westside High School and will be majoring in Business while at USF.
"Jackson is a Juco transfer who we're really glad to get on board. He's a physical, right-handed hitter that we're hoping can add some power to our lineup the next couple of years," said Coach Hieb.
Eli Larson comes to USF from Maple Grove, Minn. and is the son of Jamey and Jane. He went to Osseo Senior High School where he played both baseball and hockey. Larson is a RHP who had a 2.07 ERA throughout his high school career and will be majoring in Exercise Science while at USF.
Head Coach Grant Hieb had this to say about Larson: "We're very excited to have Eli coming to campus next fall. He has great command of all of his pitches and will only improve has he adds strength to his big frame."
Zach Peta comes to USF from Eden Prairie, Minn. and is the son of Beth and Bill. He is an outfielder and relief pitcher and played only baseball in high school. Peta attended Eden Prairie High School where he boasted a 2.29 ERA in 61 innings pitched with 68 strikeouts. Zach will major in Exercise Science while at USF.
Coach Hieb had this to say about Peta: "Zach's coming in as a two-way player whose bat gives him a chance to help our offense right away. As he gets bigger and stronger, we feel he has the chance to help us on the mound too."
Colin McGie comes to USF from Minnetonka, Minn. and is the son of Dan and Melanie. He went to Benilde-St. Margaret's High School where he played baseball and basketball where he helped lead his team to the 2023 Section 6AAA Championship in Baseball. McGie is an outfielder who hit .387 in high school and will major in Business Administration while attending USF.
"Collin is a solid left-handed hitter who's had great success at the plate throughout his prep career. We believe he'll only continue to improve as he gets bigger and stronger," said Head Coach Grant Hieb.
Brodie Herr comes to USF from Humboldt, S.D. and is the son of Chadd and Dawn. He attended West Central High School where he played Baseball and Basketball. He was an all-conference shortstop and pitcher for West Central and will major in Business Administration while at USF.
Coach Grant Hieb said this about Herr: "Brodie's combination of athleticism and size really stood out when we saw him play this fall. He's a local guy who we think has tremendous upside once he gets into our program and can focus on baseball all year round."
Jace Coleman comes to USF from Lincoln, Neb. and is the son of Angie and Neal. He attended Lincoln North Star High School where he played football and baseball and was named to the All-Academic First Team. Coleman is a pitcher and plans to major in Business while at USF.
"Jace caught our attention this fall as he's continued to develop through his prep career. We feel he has a lot of potential and could really take off once he becomes a Cougar," said Coach Grant Hieb.
Riley Schilling comes to USF from Gillette, Wyo. and is the son of Jodi and Trevor. He attended Thunder Basin High School where he played basketball and baseball. Schilling is a catcher/pitcher/UTL and will major in Business while at USF.
Head Coach Grant Hieb said this about Schilling: "We are very excited to have Riley coming to the Coo next fall. He's an intriguing player who both pitches and catches. We're excited to see how things play out as he continues to develop."
Dominic Vogel comes to USF from Century College and is the son of Kathryn Murtha and Mike Vogel. He had a .330 batting average and .482 OBP while at Century and is a catcher/outfielder. Volgel will be majoring in Sports Marketing while attending USF.
"Dominic is a Juco transfer who can both catch and play the outfield. We believe both his defensive versatility and left-handed swing will help our lineup the next couple of years," said Head Coach Grant Hieb.
Frank Vogel comes to USF from MidAmerica Nazarene and is the son of Katie and Mike and the brother of Dominic Vogel. He is from Farmington, Minn. and played baseball and hockey throughout high school. Vogel is a Golden Glove first baseman and outfielder and will be majoring in Business Administration while attending USF.
Coach Hieb had this to say, "Frank is a big, left-handed hitter that should help provide some power to our lineup and some valuable experience. We're looking forward to having him transfer in next fall and playing his final two years with his brother."
Austin Kemp comes to USF from Chaska, Minn. and is the son of Sarah and Chad. He attended Chaska High School where he played baseball and was named captain of the baseball team. Kemp is a RHP and will be majoring in Nursing while at USF.
"Austin caught our attention with his combination of arm speed and arsenal of pitches. We feel like his best days on the mound are ahead of him and we can't wait to start working with him next fall," said Head Coach Grant Hieb.
Ashton Blomberg comes to USF from Marshall, Minn. and is the son of Grant and Zana. He attended Marshall High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. Blomberg is a pitcher and will be majoring in Business while attending USF.
"We're excited to have Ashton joining our pitching staff next fall. He's got great size and athleticism and we think he'll really take off in our program," said Coach Hieb.
