ST. CLOUD, MINN. - Sioux Falls Softball competed in day two of the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament hosted by St. Cloud State. The Cougars dropped game one, 3-1, to the Huskies before walking off game two, 4-3, against the Beavers of Bemidji State.
GAME 1 - ST. CLOUD STATE
Maddi Duncan started on the mound for the Coo, pitching 6.0 innings while tabbing 4 strikeouts in 29 batters faced.Â
Hannah Fry and Damaris Cuevas accounted for the two hits USF had up until the fifth inning. Makenzie Weber crossed the plate off a double to right field by Cuevas in the top of the fifth.
Alannah Naumann shifted the momentum back to the Cougars side with a clutch catch deep in right field to end the inning. Naumann followed up with a double down the left field line but USF was unable to capitalize, leaving 3 runners stranded throughout game one.
USF put up 2 hits and 1 run against the Huskies while giving up 8 hits and 3 runs.
GAME 2 - BEMIDJI STATE
Olivia Ott started in the circle for game two pitching 4.0 innings while recording three strikeouts in 17 batters faced. Campbell Petrick came in to close out the game with 3.0 innings pitched and 11 batters faced. Petrick recorded one strikeout while giving up just two hits.
Hannah Fry paved the way for the Coo in game two with three hits and two RBI. Fry recorded two singles and a stolen base before walking the game off in the bottom of the 7th with a single up the middle. Alannah Nauman crossed the plate twice for USF with Makenzie Weber and Meghan Jochimsen recording the other two runs for the Cougars.
Sioux Falls tallied eight hits against the Beavers with four runs while giving up seven hits and three runs.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Bemidji State at 11am followed by Northern State at 1pm.
