Ralston, Neb. - The University of Sioux Falls Baseball team split a doubleheader with Northern State today. NSU took game 1 4-1 behind 6 strong innings from their starter. USF took game 2 9-2 behind a hot offense and solid pitching.
GAME 1
Brady Baur got the start for USF in game 1 and went 3.2 innings. He gave up 7 hits and 3 earned runs while recording a season high 8 punch outs. Jake Pruchniak came on in relief from the USF Bullpen and threw 2.1 innings. He gave up 1 earned run and picked up a strikeout. Reid Barnard also threw 1.0 inning from the Cougar Bullpen. He did not give up a run and recorded a strikeout.
At the plate, USF was mostly held in check. Tyler Cate and David Swanson each had 2 hits to lead the Cougars. Brady Klehr and Zach Andreason each had 1 hit as well. Klehr had USF's lone RBI for the game. Overall, USF had 6 hits, 1 RBI, 4 walks, 6 strikeouts, and 8 left on base.
GAME 2
Owen Weadge started for USF in game 2 and went a solid 6 innings. He only gave up 1 earned run. Weadge allowed 5 hits and 3 walks but had a season high 9 strikeouts on his way to picking up the win. The Cougar Bullpen came on to relieve Weadge in the 7th and allowed only 1 run in 3 innings. Mason Leonard was first out of the bullpen and in his 1 inning of work he allowed 1 walk and picked up 2 strikeouts. Zachary Shastay was next to come on in relief and in his 1 inning of work allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run. Logan Anderson finished the game off in the 9th inning. He did not allow a hit or a run and picked up 2 strikeouts.
At the plate, USF came alive in game 2. Led by Dane Small who had 3 hits with 2 of them being doubles, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI for the game. David Swanson also had a solid game at the plate going 2-4 with a triple, scored 3 runs, and had 1 RBI. Tyler Cate, Brady Klehr, Noah Christenson, Ryan Gouldin, and Isaac Bonner each had 1 hit. Klehr's hit was a double and he drove in 2 runs. Bonner also drove in 2 runs. Gouldin's hit was a homerun in the 7th inning.
UP NEXT
The Cougars are back in action next weekend in St. Cloud. They will take on St. Cloud State in a 4 game series going from Thursday March 28 through Saturday March 30. All games will be played at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. Game 1 on Thursday is slated for a 1:30PM first pitch.
