Wadsworth Leads the Charge as USF Handles Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, MINN. – Sioux Falls (12-9, 8-6 NSIC) secured a dominant 72-54 victory over Bemidji State (4-14, 2-12 NSIC) on Saturday evening at the BSU Gymnasium. The Cougars controlled the game from start to finish, thanks to a balanced offensive attack, sharp shooting, and stifling defense. 


1st Quarter:  

The Cougars started strong, shooting 71.4% from the field in the opening frame to establish a commanding 24-13 lead. Kami Wadsworth set the tone early with 10 points, showcasing her ability to finish inside and at the free-throw line. Sioux Falls dominated the paint, scoring 14 points inside, while Brecli Honner added five points off the bench, including a three-pointer. 

2nd Quarter: 

Sioux Falls continued their offensive efficiency in the second quarter, outscoring Bemidji State 21-9 to take a 45-22 lead into halftime. The Cougars were perfect from beyond the arc in the quarter, hitting all three of their attempts. Honner stayed hot, adding another seven points, while Megan Fannin and Madison Wuebben connected on key three-pointers. Sioux Falls' defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and limiting Bemidji State to only nine field goal attempts in the quarter. 

3rd Quarter:  

Bemidji State showed some fight in the third quarter, but the Cougars maintained control, outscoring the Beavers 19-14. Sioux Falls leaned on their bench, which contributed 30 points in the game, and continued to excel in the paint with 32 total points. Anna Vaaler knocked down a timely three-pointer, and Wadsworth added key baskets to keep the Cougars ahead. Sioux Falls entered the fourth quarter with a commanding 64-36 lead. 

4th Quarter:  

The Cougars slowed down offensively in the fourth quarter, scoring just eight points, but their defense ensured the victory. Bemidji State outscored Sioux Falls 18-8 in the period, but the outcome was never in doubt. Wadsworth and Honner finished the game as the standout performers, while the Cougars' rebounding and bench depth helped secure the win.

  • Shooting Efficiency: Shot 50.9% from the field (27-of-53) and 53.8% from three-point range (7-of-13). 

  • Rebounding Edge: Out-rebounded Bemidji State 31-22, including eight offensive boards.

  • Bench Production: The reserves contributed 30 points, showcasing depth across the roster. 

  • Turnovers: Forced 14 Bemidji State turnovers, converting them into 13 points.

  • Anna Vaaler: Scored seven points, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out three assists. 


Up Next 

The Cougars face a split weekend ahead, traveling to Wayne State for a Thursday game at 7:30 PM, followed by a home game against Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday at 5:30 PM in the Stewart Center.
