Cougars Split Duals at Hastings Triangular

HASTINGS, Neb. – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Wrestling team split a pair of duals on Thursday at the Hastings Triangular, hosted inside Kiewit Gymnasiumearning a 30-20 victory over Colby Community College before falling 27-21 to host Hastings College.


HASTINGS TRIANGULAR

SIOUX FALLS vs COLBY COMMUNITY COLLEGE – W, 30-20

USF opened the triangular with a strong performance against Colby, using key pins, a tech fall, and multiple forfeits to secure the dual victory.

At 138-pounds, Johanna Steinlicht got the Cougars rolling with an 8-0 win over Jazrine Nieto, finishing the bout with a fall at 3:35.

Brinley Green-Griffin followed at 145-pounds, earning a 14-4 tech fall over Destiny Gonzalez late in the match to push USF ahead.

At 160-pounds, Rachel Berger fell to Atavia Cain by tech fall (15-4, 3:00), and Colby tied the dual at 180-pounds as Kaylen McAtee pinned Aliyah Villarreal at 2:51.

USF regained momentum at 207-pounds when Zoe Adam accepted a forfeit, giving the Cougars the lead once again.

Colby briefly pulled ahead with forfeits at 103- and 110-pounds, but USF answered back decisively down the stretch. Abby Wilfong (117), Hanah Schuster (124), and Mackenzie Armagost (131) all earned forfeit victories to close out the dual and seal the 30-20 win.


SIOUX FALLS vs HASTINGS – L, 27-21

Against the host Broncos, USF battled throughout the lineup but came up just short in a competitive dual.

Hastings jumped out to an early lead with forfeits at 103- and 110-pounds before extending the margin at 117-pounds, where Sarah Spataro defeated Hanah Schuster by a 10-4 decision.

USF answered at 124-pounds as Abby Wilfong secured a fall over Cherish Faircloth at 5:30. Hastings responded with back-to-back falls at 131- and 138-pounds to widen the gap.

At 145-pounds, Johanna Steinlicht brought USF back into the dual with a quick 1:33 fall over Emma Stice. Hastings countered again at 160-pounds with a fall by Jayla Ford over Rachel Berger.

The Cougars closed strong in the upper weights. Aliyah Villarreal earned a fall at 180-pounds (2:28), and Zoe Adam followed with a 1:21 fall at 207-pounds to pull USF within six points, but Hastings held on for the 27-21 decision.

In an extra match, Addaly Miller capped the day with a 1:03 fall over Aubrey Sharbono.
