ST. PAUL, MINN. – USF Softball (21-27, 9-17 NSIC) opened their weekend road trip at Concordia-St. Paul this afternoon, despite a hard fought battle, the Cougars ultimately dropped both games to the Golden Bears, falling 4-0 in game one and 5-3 in a tightly contested game two.
GAME ONE: CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL 4, SIOUX FALLS 0
USF was held to just one hit in a tough game one loss, despite a strong effort in the circle from Maddi Duncan.
Key Performers:
Duncan struck out nine Golden Bears in her first game back since April 9th. Offensively, USF struggled to capitalize against CSP's McCullough, who spun a complete-game one-hitter. Despite drawing one walk and putting the ball in play often, USF couldn't find the breakthrough.
GAME TWO: CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL 5, SIOUX FALLS 3
The Cougars put up a strong fight in game two, racking up nine hits and rallying late, but fell short in a 5-3 loss.
Key Performers:
-
Savanna Isaacson: 2-for-3, triple, RBI, run scored
-
Taryn Wagner: 2-for-4, two singles
-
Morgan Linstad: 1-for-3, 2 runs scored, walk
-
Kyra Knudtsona: 0-for-0, 2 sac bunts, walk
-
Hannah Soderbeck: 1-for-2, sac fly, 2 RBI
-
Lauryn Foudree (L, 6-10): 6.0 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
After falling behind 2-0, USF chipped away with a sac fly from Soderbeck in the fourth to score Linstad. They closed the gap even further in the sixth when Isaacson tripled to center, scoring Linstad, and Soderbeck followed with an RBI single. Despite several late chances, the Cougars' rally came up just short.
