Scouting the Cougars

Season Outlook: USF enters 2025 under sixth-year head coach Dan Mathews, aiming to extend their streak of NSIC Tournament appearances to four straight seasons.

The team was picked sixth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, reflecting both respect for their returning talent and recognition of the conference's depth.

Leadership & Experience: The roster blends seasoned upperclassmen with five eager freshmen brimming with potential at the collegiate level.

Key Returners:

Sadie Voss (Sr. | OH): A program cornerstone in her final season, Voss has been one of the NSIC's most reliable all-around performers—her résumé includes three All-NSIC honors, 961 career kills, 868 digs, 91 blocks, and 1,084 total points over 83 matches (295 sets). She averages 3.26 kills and 3.67 points per set and earned NSIC First Team and All-Academic honors in 2024 after posting 323 kills, 292 digs, and 30 service aces

Abby Haus (So. | RS): Following a standout freshman campaign with 111 kills across 13 matches, Haus looks to return to the right side of the court for the Cougars with high expectations.

Elise Gillen (Sr. | Setter): Back for her final season to run the Cougar offense with precision and poise. Gillen has accumulated 302 sets played across 83 matches while dishing out over 2,250 assists with USF.

The Road Ahead: Bahama House Classic

The Classic presents an early litmus test for USF as they face a mix of strong regional programs and seasoned tournament hosts. These four early-season matches offer valuable opportunities to fine-tune team dynamics, lineups, and on-court strategies—particularly valuable given the team's experience and returning leadership core.
