SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls softball team split its Friday doubleheader with Jamestown at Sanford Diamonds, rolling to a 10-5 win in the opener before falling 6-0 in game two.
The Cougars moved to 25-24 overall and 13-11 in NSIC play after an offensive surge in game one highlighted by Charlie Pryor's career day and a complete-game effort from Maddi Duncan. Jamestown answered in the nightcap behind a strong pitching performance from freshman, left-handed pitcher Aubrey Quern to earn the split.
Game One: Sioux Falls 10, Jamestown 5
Jamestown struck first on a two-run home run in the opening inning, but Sioux Falls answered immediately with a four-run bottom half to seize control. Brianne Lawver started the rally with an RBI single, Sandra Ribich drew a bases-loaded walk, and Pryor capped the inning with a two-run single to make it 4-2.
The Cougars added to the lead in the third, again leaning on Pryor, who delivered another two-run single. Ribich later scored on a throwing error before Pryor crossed the plate on a steal sequence to push the lead to 8-2.
After Jamestown trimmed the deficit to 8-3 in the fifth, Sioux Falls responded with two more runs. Pryor added a sacrifice fly RBI and Olivia Huckfelt lifted a sacrifice fly to stretch the advantage to 10-3.
Jamestown made one final push with two runs in the seventh, but Duncan closed out her 14th win of the season, striking out seven in a complete-game effort.
Game Two: Jamestown 6, Sioux Falls 0
The second game turned into a pitcher's duel early before Jamestown broke through with a three-run third inning, using a pair of RBI plays to take a 3-0 lead.
Sioux Falls threatened in the fourth when Emma Kristof doubled and moved to third, but the Cougars were unable to cash in. Jamestown added insurance in the sixth, scoring three more runs to build a 6-0 cushion.
USF managed just three hits in the contest, with Kristof, Kyra Knudtson and Ribich accounting for the offense. Jamestown's Quern tossed a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts to secure the split.
