Daubman Records Nine Saves in Sunday Matchup with Minnesota Duluth

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Soccer team fell to Minnesota Duluth, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Bob Young Field, snapping a three-match unbeaten streak for the Cougars.

Minnesota Duluth struck early in each half, while Sioux Falls goalkeeper Delani Daubman turned in a strong performance between the posts with a season-high nine saves. The loss moved USF to 2-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in NSIC play.

How It Happened

Minnesota Duluth applied pressure from the opening minutes, forcing Daubman into her first save just under four minutes into the match. The Bulldogs followed with a corner and capitalized moments later as Nora Helvig found the back of the net off an assist from Marissa VanDeHei at the 4:19 mark to give UMD an early 1-0 advantage.

Daubman helped keep the Cougars within striking distance from there, making another stop in the ninth minute before turning away opportunities in the 24th and 45th minutes.

Sioux Falls worked its way into the match offensively and began creating chances midway through the opening half. The Cougars earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 27th minute, while Camryn Kennedy and Kate Stratman each followed with attempts.

USF produced its best chance of the opening half just before the break when Stratman put an attempt on frame in the 44th minute, forcing Minnesota Duluth goalkeeper Edy Halverson into a save. The Bulldogs carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime despite the Cougars generating four shots and two corner kicks over the opening 45 minutes.

Minnesota Duluth again came out quickly following the break. Daubman made a save just seven seconds into the second half, but the Bulldogs doubled their advantage at 46:47 when Jessica Eischens scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.

The Cougars continued looking for a response and generated four second-half corner kicks. Elizabeth Schmidt produced USF's best scoring opportunity of the half in the 61st minute, putting an attempt toward the bottom-left corner that was stopped by Halverson.

Daubman remained busy on the other end as Minnesota Duluth continued to attack. The Cougar keeper recorded five saves in the second half alone, including stops in the 48th, 55th, 57th and 73rd minutes after the Bulldogs' second goal.

Sioux Falls continued pushing into the closing minutes, earning corner kicks in the 78th and 86th minutes, but was unable to break through the UMD defense before the final whistle.

Up Next

The Cougars continue NSIC play next weekend when they head to Moorhead to take on the Dragons on Friday at 3pm followed by a matchup against Minneosta Crookston on Sunday at 1pm. Sioux Falls will return home October 2nd to host Jamestown at 7pm.
