CAREER -- Named to the Academic All-NSIC squad for second straight season ...also selected to the NSIC Academic Team of Excellence (GPA of 3.6 or better) for second straight year...graduated in May and will be enrolled in Master of Business Administration program...earned selection to the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award list in 2019-20...played in 31 games with six starts...has totaled 39Â tackles with 22Â solo stops...helped lead USF to 24-11 record with two playoff berths (2017, 2019) in three seasons.
2019 -- Among 13 USF student-athletes named to the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award for the 2019-19 school year (3.75 GPA or better)...earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in May, 2020, graduating Summa Cum Laude (3.8-3.9 GPA)...named to the Academic All-NSIC Team for the second straight year and also named to the NSIC Academic Team of Excellence for a second straight year...played in 12 games at linebacker with six starts, including against Colorado Mines in the NCAA DII playoffs... recorded 21 tackles with 12 of solo variety....had a half tackle for loss (and half sack) against Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 19 and U-Mary Oct. 5, 2019..had a tackle in 11-of-12 games...had a career-high four tackles against Colorado Mines on Nov. 23...also had three tackles - all solo stops - against No. Minnesota State on Nov. 9....had three tackles against Minnesota Crookston on Oct. 12 and three against U-Mary on Oct. 5...part of USF defense to rank fourth in DII with a 260.7 yards per game allowed and 14th in scoring defense at 17.3 points allowed per game...Coo also in national ranks fifth in passing efficiency defense at 94.15...USF was also 12th in passing yards allowed at 161.8 yards per game and finished 16th against the rush (98.8 yards, 2.98 yards per carry) in DII
2018 -- Named to the Academic All-NSIC squad...also selected to the NSIC Academic Team of Excellence (GPA of 3.6 or better)...played in 10 games for the 7-4 USF squad... member of defense that ranked 21st in DII and third in the NSIC in scoring defense (19.0 ppg), 32nd in DII and sixth in the NSIC in rushing defense (120.2 ypg), 54th in DII and fourth in the NSIC in total defense (339.8 ypg)...had nine tackles with four solo stops...recorded tackles in six games...had a season-best two tackles three times including in the 51-13 "Key to the City" win over rival Augustana on 9-22-18...also had two tackles against Minot State on 9-29-18 and Upper Iowa on 10-27-18.
2017 - Recorded nine tackles with six solo stop for the Cougars, which finished 9-3 and earned a berth in the DII playoffs...had two tackles in a game three times with a career-high two solo stops against Upper Iowa on 11-4-17...also registered two tackles against Northern State on 9-9-17 and U-Mary on 9-16-17...member of defense that fielded one of the nation's best defenses in 2017, ranking in second total defense (244.3 yards per game), second in scoring defense (12.5 ppg), third in rushing yards per game (67.8 yards per game), seventh in first down defense (158) and ninth in sacks (3.33 per game, 40 total). USF led the NSIC in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense, sacks, and second in first downs allowed.

HIGH SCHOOL - Played a central role on the Sioux Falls Washington team that claimed the Class AAA State Championship (27-24) as part of an 11-1 season… one of four Warriors (Michael Enalls, Ty Smith, Joey Wehrkamp) to sign at USF…completed 20-of-29 passes for 316 yards and three TDs in leading to Washington to the state championship, the program’s 40th…played quarterback and strong safety for the Warriors, directed by head coach Chad Stadem…selected All City, All Conference, second team all-state, Academic All-State and Argus Leader Elite 45…in past two seasons, completed 174-of-293 passes for 2,446 yards with 29 TDs and eight interceptions…rushed 177 times for 910 yards (5.1 avg) with 10 TDs… participated in Football, Baseball and Basketball at WHS...named to National Honor Society, Student Council and participated in FCA and Chemistry Club.
PERSONAL -- plans to attend law school…community service and campus activities include serving as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative 2016-2020, volunteer at Feeding South Dakota 2019-2020, volunteer for Covid Relief through Embrace Church 2020, volunteer at Sioux Falls Banquet 2016-2017, volunteer at Sioux Falls Helpline Center 2016…son of Drew and Nancy Schelhaas…has a brother, Ben...earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration in May, 2020...will be enrolled in Master of Business Administration program in 2020-21.
