Grant Hieb completed his tenth season at the helm of USF Baseball in 2026, leading the Cougars to a 26-26 overall record. Under his veteran leadership, the offense proved to be a constant threat by racking up 358 runs on 501 hits, while the pitching staff combined for 371 strikeouts over 406 innings of work. Hieb successfully guided several standouts to individual honors, including first baseman Mitch Iliff, who secured First-Team All-NSIC and Second-Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Region accolades, alongside outfielder Drew Miller (Second-Team All-NSIC) and Dominic Vogel (NSIC All-Defensive Team). On the mound, he mentored Jake Ammann to a Chick-fil-A Athlete of the Month nod and Brady Bauer to an NSIC Pitcher of the Week honor. Off the field, Hieb maintained a pristine academic standard within the program as the Cougars claimed nine NSIC Team of Excellence honors, 10 NSIC All-Academic selections, and a CorTrust Scholar-Athlete designation for Tyler Maeyaert.
In 2003, Hieb earned a bachelor’s degree in wellness from the University of Sioux Falls. After graduating from USF, Hieb joined former USF head coach Luke Langenfeld’s staff as a student assistant. After coaching the fall season, he moved to Henderson, Nev., where he served as an assistant baseball coach at Foothill High School in the fall of 2007 through the spring of 2008. In 2009, he returned to USF as an assistant coach under head coach Matt Giliano.
Prior to coaching, Hieb was a standout collegiate player, beginning his career as a right fielder and pitcher for Iowa Lakes Community College in Esterville, Iowa. During his time at ILCC he earned first-team all-region honors. Hieb transferred to Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa, where he served as their leadoff hitter while averaging a .343 batting average with an on-base percentage of .471. While with the Vikings, Hieb was named Academic All-Conference. In 2002, he transferred to USF for his senior season and led the team in hitting at .395 along with 58 hits and an on-base percentage of .473. A right fielder, he was named All- Great Plains Athletic Conference first team.
Hieb and his wife, Catrina, a USF soccer and track alum, have a daughter, Amelia and a son, Max.
