Biography

Career

A left-handed pitcher, Johnny Checheris has appeared in 18 career games for the Cougars while providing reliable depth out of the bullpen. Through his first two collegiate seasons, he owns a 2-0 record with 15 strikeouts over 23.1 innings pitched. Known for his composure and consistency in relief, Checheris continues to be a valuable member of the USF pitching staff.

2026 (Redshirt Sophomore)

Checheris did not compete during the 2026 season while recovering from an injury, utilizing a redshirt season.

2025 (Sophomore)

Appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen, posting a 2-0 record with a 4.64 ERA. Logged 21.1 innings and recorded 13 strikeouts while emerging as one of Sioux Falls' most dependable relief pitchers.

2024 (Freshman)

Made two appearances in his collegiate debut, pitching 2.0 innings and recording two strikeouts.

High School

Checheris was a three-sport athlete in baseball, football, and basketball during his prep career in Minnesota. He earned All-Section 2AAAA honors in baseball and helped lead his team to a third-place finish at the Minnesota Class AAAA State Tournament. He also competed for the Minnesota Starters travel program.

Checheris is the son of Lenny and Kristine Checheris and has one brother, Michalis.
