Al Hansen

Al Hansen enters his 28th season as the punters and kickers coach for the University of Sioux Falls.

Al Hansen entered his 27th season as the punters and kickers coach for the University of Sioux Falls in 2025, continuing his long-standing legacy of elite special teams mentorship. Under his veteran guidance, the Cougar kicking unit successfully converted 41 PATs to help fuel a high-powered offense that averaged 30.64 points per game. In the punting department, Hansen's specialists dropped 35 punts for 1,124 total yards, maintaining a steady 32.11 gross average and a 30.11 net average per game to consistently flip the field for the USF defense. A former Cougar All-American honorable mention punter himself, Hansen leveraged his decades of program experience and a track record of producing five All-Americans to ensure the Cougars' specialists remained a disciplined, reliable asset throughout the 2025 campaign.

In the 2024 season Cougar Football finished the season 8-3 and t-2nd in conference standings. They also had 13 student-athletes named to the NSIC All-Conference teams, 15 athletes awarded All-Academic team and 20 athletes awarded All-Academic team of Excellence.

Throughout his career with the program, he has coached five All-American punters and kickers.

As a player in 1987, Hansen earned all-conference and All-American Honorable Mention honors after averaging 40.3 yards per punt for the Cougars.
