Alex Johnson

Alex Johnson is entering his second season as an Assistant Coach specializing with the USF Linbackers and Special Teams.

Johnson brings a well-rounded coaching background and valuable experience on both sides of the ball. He most recently served on the staff at Buena Vista University, where he joined as offensive coordinator in 2023. His versatility and strategic acumen have made him a respected figure across multiple phases of the game.

Before his time at BVU, Johnson spent three seasons at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, serving as co-defensive coordinator. He also held coaching roles at Minnesota State (2018–19) and Hamline University (2017). During his time at Mankato, he helped guide the Mavericks to a national semifinal appearance in 2018 and a national runner-up finish in 2019. Under his leadership, four players earned All-NSIC honors and one received All-Super Region recognition.

A native of the Midwest, Johnson is a 2014 graduate of Marquette University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. His diverse coaching resume and proven ability to develop talent at a high level make him a valuable addition to the USF staff.
