University of Sioux Falls Athletics

Jakob Thut enters his third season with the University of Sioux Falls football program in 2026 and serves as the Cougars' Director of Football Operations and Safeties Coach.

Thut joined the USF coaching staff in 2024 and has helped the Cougars to a 15-7 overall record and 13-7 mark in NSIC play over his first two seasons.

In 2025, USF finished 7-4 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Cougar defense allowed 343.8 yards per game, including just 177.3 yards through the air. USF recorded seven interceptions and held opponents to a 41.4 percent conversion rate on third down.

During his first season with the program in 2024, Thut helped the Cougars to an 8-3 record and 7-3 mark in the NSIC. USF allowed 22.0 points and 339.0 yards per game while limiting opponents to 127.1 rushing yards per contest. The Cougar defense recorded 14 interceptions and held opponents to a 35.4 percent conversion rate on third down.

As Director of Football Operations, Thut assists with the day-to-day organization and administration of the football program in addition to his responsibilities coaching the safeties.
