Jakob Thut

Jakob Thut enters his second season as an assistant coach at the University of Sioux Falls in 2026, where he works primarily with the Cougar defensive ends.

In his first season on staff in 2025, Thut helped guide the Cougars to a 7-4 overall record and a 6-4 mark in NSIC play. His defensive ends played an important role in establishing a physical and disruptive defensive front, contributing to a unit that recorded 14 sacks and forced 13 fumbles while helping limit opponents to a 41.4 percent conversion rate on third down. The defensive line's ability to create pressure and set the edge against the run was instrumental in allowing the Cougars to consistently put opposing offenses in difficult situations.

Working closely with the defensive front, Thut emphasized technique, discipline and relentless effort, helping develop a position group that played with toughness and consistency throughout the season. His coaching contributed to a defense that forced turnovers, created negative plays and consistently impacted the game at the line of scrimmage.

Thut joined the University of Sioux Falls coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season and quickly established himself as an energetic teacher and relationship-builder. His passion for player development and attention to detail have made him a valuable addition to the Cougar coaching staff as he continues to mentor the next generation of USF defensive linemen.
