Joe Sengel

Joe Sengel

Joe Sengel joins the University of Sioux Falls football coaching staff in his first season with the Coo. 

Sengel comes to USF from Waldorf University where he worked with the linebackers in 2020, and the wide receivers in 2021. During his time there, he worked with one of the most decorated wide receivers in Waldorf history and produced multiple North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) players of the week and All-Conference selections. While with the Warriors, Sengel led an NAIA Top 25 kickoff return team in 2021 where the Warriors finished 7-3 on the year.

Prior to Waldorf, Sengel coached football at Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois from 2015 to 2019. During his time there he moved up from Freshman Defensive Coordinator in 2015, to Freshman Offensive Coordinator in 2016, and then to the JV Offensive Coordinator from 2017-2018 while assisting with the Varsity offense for two State Semi-Final appearances. During his last season with the Redwings, Sengel was named the Varsity running backs coach where he helped produce an All-Conference running back.

Sengel earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois where he worked under legendary coaches, Kalen DeBoer and Bubba Schweigert during his senior year. While with Southern Illinois, Sengel worked as an offensive and defensive student coach for the Salukis.

Sengel, who was born in Chicago, Illinois, and holds an American Sports Education Program Certification, earned his master's in 2022 in Organizational Leadership with a specialization in Sports Management.

He is the son of Mike and Patti Sengel.
