Chalashtari transferred to the University of Sioux Falls from Garden City Community College, where he spent the early part of his collegiate career.

Chalashtari graduated from Maize High School in Maize, Kansas, where he competed in football, baseball, and basketball for the Eagles. He earned First Team All-State and First Team All-League honors in football, establishing himself as a standout multi-sport athlete.
