Hensen graduated from Sun Prairie East High School in Wisconsin, where he competed in football, track, and basketball for the Cardinals. He earned two Second Team All-Conference selections along with an Honorable Mention and received academic honors for maintaining a GPA above 3.5.

Hensen is the son of Jennifer and Nick Hensen and has two siblings, McKenna (16) and Ashton (13).
