Drenth graduated from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids, Iowa, where he competed in football, basketball, and baseball for the Lions. He earned High Honor Roll and Academic All-District recognition. Athletically, he was an All-District Honorable Mention selection, a First Team All-District honoree, the All-District Defensive Line MVP, and a Second Team All-State selection.
