Troy Odegaard enters his third season as an assistant men's basketball coach for the University of Sioux Falls and his fifth season overall as a member of USF's coaching staff. He served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cougars from 2010-11.
Odegaard adds several years of coaching experience to USF's staff, as he has coached at nearly every level of collegiate basketball.
In four seasons with USF, Odegaard has assisted the men's basketball team to an overall record of 64-54 including back-to-back 20-win seasons. In 2010, USF went 24-9 en route to a Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament championship and NAIA National Tournament berth. The Cougars were 20-9 and were perfect at home (11-0) in 2011-12.
Before joining USF, Odegaard spent six years at Concordia College, a NCAA D-III institution in Moorhead, Minn. From 2003-2008, he wore many hats for the Cobbers, serving as men's basketball assistant coach, head men's golf coach and HPE instructor. During his tenure at Concordia, the Cobbers enjoyed two trips to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball playoffs.
In 2002, Odegaard was appointed Concordia's interim head women's basketball coach for the 2002-03 season.
Odegaard gained two years of NCAA D-I experience at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he served as the Husker's video coordinator from 1997-99. Prior to Nebraska, Odegaard was a graduate assistant coach for South Dakota State University from 1995-97.
Odegaard was a member of the Cornhusker's staff that guided Nebraska to an NCAA Tournament appearance, as well as a SDSU crew that accounted for two D-II National Tournament appearances and back-to-back North Central Conference titles.
A South Dakota native, Odegaard earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Dakota Wesleyan University and a master's degree in athletic administration from South Dakota State University.
Odegaard currently works as an educational assistant for special education at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls and resides in Hartford, S.D.
