SIOUX FALLS – Tyler Vaughan, a former All-NSIC guard with Minnesota State Moorhead, has been named graduate assistant coach by University of Sioux Falls Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Johnson.

Originally of Braham, Minn., Vaughan earned a degree in finance at MSUM in 2017 and will seek a Master of Business Administration degree at USF. He played a key role for MSUM as the Dragons compiled a 105-29 record during his four years as a starter. In his last two seasons, MSUM won 65 total games, tying for an NSIC regular season title, earning two NCAA DII regional berths, winning the 2014-15 regional title and an appearance in the NCAA DII Elite Eight National Championships.
Vaughan, MSUM's career three-point field goal leader (289), started 118 games (134 total) with the Dragons, accumulating 1,474 points, 531 rebounds, 310 assists and 147 steals. He was named All-NSIC in 2015, when he also earned a spot on the NSIC All-Tourney squad.
As a junior, he led MSUM to a 35-4 record and a 20-2 conference mark (tied for overall title), finishing runner up in the conference tournament. They earned an at-large regional tourney bid and defeated Northwest Missouri State, 47-42 in the championship. Vaughan scored 10 points in MSUM's loss to Bellarmine at the NCAA DII Elite Eight Championships.
As a senior in 2015-16, Vaughan, whose brother Josh is an assistant basketball coach at the University of Mary, played a central role as MSUM finished 30-6, including 19-3 in league play. He helped the Dragons reach the NSIC Tournament Championship game and later advance to the regional tournament for the second straight year.
As a prep, he played for his dad (Robert) at Braham High School, where he scored 3,340 points, which ranked fifth in state history. He set Minnesota's career three point mark with 495, earning all-state honors as a senior. A three-time all-conference MVP, he led Braham to the state tournament in 2012.
