Macie Michelson enters her third season as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball program in 2026-27. A former standout point guard and accomplished student-athlete at South Dakota State, Michelson brings a wealth of playing experience, leadership, and basketball knowledge to the Cougar coaching staff.
Michelson completed her second season on the USF bench in 2025-26, helping guide the Cougars to a 13-16 overall record and a 10-12 mark in NSIC play. She assisted in the development of First Team All-NSIC selection Anna Vaaler and NSIC Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-Conference honoree Krista Langager. Michelson also helped support a program culture centered on academic excellence, as the Cougars produced nine NSIC Team of Excellence selections, four CSC Academic All-District honorees, and a CorTrust Scholar-Athlete in Kami Wadsworth.
Michelson enjoyed an outstanding collegiate playing career at South Dakota State University from 2007-11, serving as the Jackrabbits' starting point guard for three seasons and making 80 career starts. During her career, SDSU won multiple Summit League Tournament titles and advanced to three NCAA Tournament appearances and one WNIT appearance.
A steady floor leader and exceptional passer, Michelson finished her career as one of the top point guards in program history, earning Academic All-Summit League honors and being named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence during both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. She led the team in assists as a sophomore with 124 and ranked among the Summit League leaders in assists per game and assist-to-turnover ratio. Throughout her career, she was known for her toughness, court vision, and ability to elevate those around her.
Before her collegiate career, Michelson starred at Marshall High School in Marshall, Minnesota, where she compiled one of the most decorated careers in program history. A five-year starter, she amassed 2,131 career points, 522 rebounds, 486 assists, and 393 steals while averaging 21.8 points per game. She was a Minnesota Miss Basketball finalist, Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State selection, four-time all-area honoree, and the Marshall Independent Player of the Year in 2007. She also helped lead Marshall to back-to-back state tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2006.
A standout multi-sport athlete, Michelson also earned all-conference honors twice in volleyball and honorable mention all-state recognition as a senior while competing in track and field. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was nominated for the Minnesota EXCEL Award for Excellence in Community, Education, and Leadership.
