Shawn Bergan is in his eleventh season as an assistant coach with the University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball team.
During his time, he has helped lead USF to a 155-73 record with eight winning seasons. In 2019-20, Bergan helped lead USF to its first-ever NSIC South Division title and a top-10 national ranking. The Cougars earned the top South seed in the NSIC Tourney that season while also receiving a national ranking in the WBCA for the first time at the DII level. USF also secured its second NCAA DII Central Region Tourney berth as the No. 3 seed. Bergan was part of the coaching staff that guided the Cougars to the school’s first of many NSIC Tournament Championships in 2016.
Before coming to USF, Bergan spent five seasons as a part-time assistant coach at Augustana starting in 2008 after serving seven seasons as the head coach of the girls' basketball program at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School. He has been involved with coaching basketball for the past 23 years, working with high school boys' and girls' programs and men’s and women’s college teams.
Bergan earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from the University of Sioux Falls and a Master of Science in athletic administration from South Dakota State University. He also has a teaching certificate from Augustana, where he was also a part-time assistant for the Augustana men's team from 1991 to 1994.
Originally from Webster,South Dakota, Bergan and his wife Ginger, who is a physical education teacher in the Sioux Falls School District, live in Sioux Falls with their son, Bo and daughters, Gracie and Anna.
