Andy Janssen enters his first season at the helm of USF Soccer while bringing more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience to Sioux Falls, including the past nine seasons as associate head coach at South Dakota State University. A proven recruiter, developer, and tactician, Janssen has played a key role in building championship-caliber programs and developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
Andy Janssen takes the reins as the head coach of the University of Sioux Falls Soccer program, bringing over 15 years of collegiate coaching experience, including a highly successful nine-season stint as associate head coach at NCAA Division I South Dakota State (121-33-28 record). He inherits a resilient USF squad coming off a 6-10-2 season (4-9-2 NSIC), where the Cougars' offense generated 21 goals on 197 shots while putting 47.7% of their attempts on goal. Defensively, the team held opponents to just 9.8 shots per game while making 64 saves. A proven recruiter and tactician who has developed 89 all-conference and 31 academic all-district selections throughout his career, Janssen is primed to elevate the Cougar program to new heights.
At South Dakota State, Janssen helped guide the Jackrabbits to sustained success at the NCAA Division I level, helping compile an overall record of 121-33-28 during his tenure. The program captured two Summit League regular season titles, five tournament championships, and made five NCAA Tournament appearances.
Janssen served as recruiting coordinator while also overseeing positional development, including goalkeepers and attacking players. His responsibilities included scouting, training session planning, film breakdown, NCAA compliance, and academic oversight for student-athletes.
Prior to SDSU, Janssen spent seven seasons at Bemidji State, where he helped the Beavers to a 79-48-10 record and consistent success in the NSIC.
Throughout his coaching career, Janssen has helped develop numerous all-conference, all-region, and academic standouts. Across the NSIC and Summit League, his teams have produced 89 All-Conference honorees, 31 All-Region performers, 4 Academic All-Americans, 31 Academic All-District selections, and 74 Academic All-Conference honorees, along with 53 Conference Athletes of the Week and 16 Conference Athletes of the Year. His programs have also earned 18 Team Academic Awards and been led by three Coach of the Year honorees.
In addition to his collegiate coaching background, Janssen has strong ties to the region through his work in club soccer, serving as Director of Coaching and Girls Director for Select FC/Brookings FC.
Janssen was a standout collegiate player and holds a bachelor's degree from Northwestern College and a master's degree from Bemidji State University, along with an extensive list of advanced coaching licenses.
