John Moening enters his first season as an assistant coach for the University of Sioux Falls Women's Soccer program in 2026.
Moening brings an extensive background in collegiate and club soccer, with proven experience in player development, recruiting, and goalkeeper training.
He arrives at USF after serving as the women's assistant coach, goalkeeper coach, and recruiting coordinator at St. Olaf College from 2022-25. During his tenure, the Oles compiled a 45-17-11 overall record, established back-to-back program records for victories in 2024 and 2025, and advanced to three consecutive MIAC Tournament semifinal appearances. Under his guidance, St. Olaf produced one Defensive Player of the Year, two Rookie of the Year honorees, nine all-region selections, 16 All-MIAC performers, and 21 CSC Academic All-District selections.
As recruiting coordinator, Moening directed all aspects of the program's recruiting efforts, developing national recruiting pipelines and overseeing the entire process from player evaluations and communications to campus visits and relationship building.
In addition to his work with the women's program, Moening contributed to the success of St. Olaf's men's soccer program. During his time on staff, the Oles captured back-to-back MIAC regular-season championships, won a conference tournament title, earned consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, and advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2025.
Beyond the collegiate ranks, Moening has built an impressive résumé in club soccer and goalkeeper development. He currently serves as Goalkeeping Director and Assistant Coach for the Minnesota Girls Olympic Development Program and has previously held leadership positions with Tonka Fusion Elite, Fusion Soccer Club, and Keliix Intra Soccer Club, helping develop numerous collegiate-level goalkeepers.
Moening also has previous collegiate coaching experience at Hamline University, where he served as goalkeeper coach for both the men's and women's soccer programs.
His diverse coaching background, extensive recruiting experience, and passion for player development make him a valuable addition to the Cougar staff as USF enters a new era under head coach Andy Janssen's leadership.
