Andrea McCartney

Andrea McCartney is entering her eighth season as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the USF Cougar volleyball program. She has 22years of coaching experience at the college and the junior development levels.  While serving the program, McCartney led the recruitment of over 50 student-athletes.

Head Coach Joel McCartney comments on the program’s Associate Head Coach:
“Andrea’s ability to build relationships with top-level recruits and their families is outstanding,” said McCartney. “She is authentic in her approach to selling our program family and genuinely the most caring person for our Cougar athletes.”

One of McCartney's great passions is the development of youth volleyball and seeing young athletes succeed. Throughout her coaching career, McCartney has directed many youth volleyball clinics and camps.  She has also coached and served as a consultant for several high level volleyball club programs.

Prior to arriving to Sioux Falls, McCartney served alongside her husband as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Georgia. She also directed the summer volleyball camp operations for the program.

McCartney previously spent five seasons as an assistant coach for the Winthrop University Eagles volleyball program from 2001-06. Together the McCartney’s were able to earn five consecutive Big South Conference Titles and berths to the NCAA DI postseason tournament in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Prior to her time at Winthrop, McCartney served as a volunteer coach at the University of Oklahoma in 2000 and an assistant with her alma-mater Bellevue University program from 1996-99.

The former Andrea Viviano was a four-year letter-winner (1992-96) at Bellevue University, where she earned MCAC First Team and NAIA All-Region honors as an Outside Hitter. She also played one season for the Nebraska Tornados in the NVA Professional League as a defensive specialist in 1997.

She is married to Cougars' head volleyball coach Joel McCartney. The couple has two children, a daughter Kate (14), and son James (12).
