Former USF Coach Named Assistant Coach with Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers named former USF assistant coach and Sioux Falls native, Nate Tibbetts an assistant coach on Monday. Tibbetts was an assistant coach at the University of Sioux Falls from 2001-2005 and assisted the 2003-2004 Cougars team to their best season in school history, where USF finished the season with 26 wins before falling in the NAIA Final Four.

Most recently, Tibbetts was selected as head coach for the 2011 Pan American Games which concluded this fall. Under Tibbetts' guidance, the U.S. team earned a bronze medal, their first medal since 1999.

Before accepting the position with the Cavaliers, Tibbetts served as the head coach of the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Developmental League the past two seasons, leading them to an overall record of 60-40 (.600). He also spent four seasons with the Sioux Falls Skyforce (2005-2009), earning the head coaching position just before the 2007-2008 season. The Storm were 53-47 (.530) under Tibbetts.

Prior to coaching in the NBDL, Tibbetts was hired as an assistant coach at the University of Sioux Falls. Shane Murphy, who coached Tibbetts as an assistant coach at USD, brought him on board. In his four seasons at USF, the Cougars posted a record of 92-44 (.676), including two trips to the NAIA Division II national tournament.
