Cougar Tennis Falls to Upper Iowa Peacocks, 8-1

USF dropped its third match of the season, falling 8-1 to Upper Iowa in women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon in Owatonna, Minn. The Peacocks swept through singles and won at No. 1 and No. 3 in doubles.

The Cougars fall to 0-3 overall, while the Peacocks improved to 4-1.

The Peacocks, led by a trio of regionally-ranked players, burst out of the gate and took control of the match during doubles play.

USF sophomore Karlee Sieve and freshman Morgan DeLange were nearly swept away, 8-1, at first doubles while sophomores Rachel Hussey and Julia Iversen took the second doubles match 6-3 when an Upper Iowa player retired from the match with a knee injury. In the number three slot, Angie Alba and Patty Vanderhowen notched a decisive 8-1 win over Caitlin Vance and Dannika Nash to clinch the doubles point for the Peacocks.

Singles play did not go any better for the Cougars. Upper Iowa sophomore Amanda Nunez dispatched Rachel Hussey, 6-0, 6-1 at no. 1 singles and the Peacocks cruised the rest of the way, dropping only eight points during the singles competition.

USF will travel to Winona State on Friday.
