The USF women's soccer team (1-11-1, 1-8-1 NSIC) came up short in a 2-1 double overtime loss to Northern State (7-5-1, 4-5-1 NSIC). The Wolves scored the winning goal halfway into the second overtime period.

The Cougars got on the board first when Ciara Howerton made a pass to Tia Ferrando who put the ball in the left side of the net from the top left corner of the box. The goal was Ferrando's second of the season.

Corrin Cook contributed to a first half shutout for USF with her three saves. Cook finished the match with eight saves which brings her season total to 75 saves.

Northern State's Anna Bondy tied up the game in the 78th minute when she snuck the ball past Cook from the top of the box. The Wolves Kay Hernandez was credited with the assist.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the final minutes of the second period, but both came up short. In the 87th minute, Maria Gonzalez's shot was saved by NSU goalkeeper Brittany Tietz. The Wolves then quickly made their way down the field and an Amber Wanous shot was wide left of the goal.

Five minutes into the second overtime period, Northern State's Anna Bondy scored her second goal of the day off a pass from teammate Andrea Boisner to give the Wolves the victory.  

Ciara Howerton was on the attack for the Cougars in the match, recording four shots on goal and one assist. Tia Ferrando also came away with one goal on four shot attempts.

The Cougars will compete next on Sunday, October 20 against Minnesota State-Moorhead. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
