USF Adds Roseville Standout for 2013-14

Mackenzie “Mack” Johnson signed a National Letter-of-Intent with the University of Sioux Falls on Friday, during the regular signing period for men's basketball. Head coach Chris Johnson and his coaching staff announced that Johnson, a 6-3 shooting guard from Roseville, Minn. would be joining the Cougar program this fall.

“We are excited Mack has chosen to further his academic and athletic career at USF,” said coach Johnson. “He comes from a great basketball program and we believe he can have a pretty special career here.”

Johnson jumperJohnson, a senior at Roseville Area High School (RAHS), was named to the Associated Press all-state, Star Tribune all-metro and St. Paul Pioneer Press all-east metro teams after leading the Raiders to a 25-5 record and their third-consecutive conference crown last season. A four-year letterwinner, Johnson became the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,253 career-points. His offensive skills were especially evident during the Raiders' post-season run, where he also set a school record with 45 points against Osseo, and 27 points the following night in the AAAA sectional semi-final. Combined, he tallied 15 three-point makes during the two game stretch.

“I had the opportunity to see him score 45 points in the sectional playoffs and his performance really demonstrated the type of player he is,” added Johnson. “He can really score the ball from the perimeter.”

Johnson currently holds RAHS records for single-season free throw percentage (.893), 3-point field goals made in a game (8), single-season 3-point field goals made (84) and career 3-point field goals made (230). A Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association all-star selection, Johnson also added the all-star game 3-point contest title to his resume.

“Mack is also an excellent student, and he will be a tremendous asset not only to the men's basketball program, but to the entire campus community."

An honor roll student at RAHS, Johnson was a 2012-13 academic all-state selection, an honor given to student-athletes that retain a 3.5 GPA or higher.
