SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Concluding their busy weekend, Sioux Falls Track & Field placed seven athletes in the top-eight of their respective events at the Sioux City Relays. Bobby Brockmueller also capped off USF's distance trio with a near-PR time in the men's 1,500-meter run at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif.
Ethan Tabbert continues to improve in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and posted the No. 4 time in USF Track & Field history. Tabbert finished as runner-up, first among attached competitors, with a time of 9:40.23, which set a new personal-best for the junior from Sioux Falls.
Marissa Whipple was one of two Cougars to place in the women's shot put, placing fifth on Saturday. Whipple's registered a best toss of 12.93 meters (42 feet-5.25 inches) and Cassidy Wright finished eighth at 12.44 meters (40-9.75).
The men's pole vault trio of Chase Jensen, Brandon Rogers, and Jacob Zebedee finished 3-4-5, respectively, on Saturday. Jensen cleared 4.76 meters (15-7.25), a provisional mark, to take third place, and was the top attached competitor. Rogers and Zebedee both surpassed 4.61 meters (15-1.5), with Rogers edging his teammate based on misses in previous attempts.
In the women's long jump, Jada Carr logged the sixth-best leap of the day. Her 5.18-meter (17-0) jump earned her the top-eight finish on Saturday.
Continuing USF's success in California, Brockmueller nearly took down a school record and narrowly missed a provisional qualifying time in the men's 1,500-meter run at The Beach Invitational on Saturday. The USF senior clocked a 3:54.40 to finish 24th overall in a 98-athlete field.
USF heads to the Drake Alternative/Alumni Meet hosted by Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday, April 25.
