WAYNE, Neb. – The University of Sioux Falls track & field teams opened the outdoor season at the 18th Annual Wayne State Wildcat Classic with a pair of top-two finishes on the women's side and several productive performances in the throws, jumps, and distance events. The Cougars were led by Lyndi Koosman's runner-up finish in the triple jump and Tobi Peterson's fifth-place mark in the shot put.
Koosman paced the women with a leap of 11.32 meters in the triple jump, finishing second in the field. Peterson added a fifth-place finish in the shot put at 13.01 meters, while Delanie VanDriel followed closely behind in sixth at 12.74 meters. VanDriel also turned in another top-six result in the discus with a 44.70-meter throw, giving the Cougars two of their best field-event finishes of the meet.
USF also saw solid early-season marks from its women's distance group. Faith Traphagen placed 12th in the 800 meters, while Brooklyn Koll and Chloe Aanenson finished 13th and 14th in the 1500 meters just .02 seconds apart. Olivia Babler rounded out the Sioux Falls entries in the 1500 with a 41st-place showing. In the pole vault, Alivia Dawson cleared 2.63 meters to tie for fourth.
On the men's side, Zarek Khan recorded the top finish with a fourth-place clearance of 4.05 meters in the pole vault. The Cougar distance group competed in the 1500 meters, led by Jace Cofer in 18th at 4:23.91, followed by Jaylen Palmer in 28th, Guta Buta in 49th, and Parker Hahn in 52nd. In the throws, Jackson Gacke posted a pair of top-25 finishes, taking 22nd in the shot put and 17th in the discus, while Herbert Pimentel added a 23rd-place mark in the shot put.
The Wildcat Classic gave the Cougars a clean start to the outdoor campaign and another chance to establish marks as the spring season gets underway.
