SIOUX FALLS -- The University of Sioux Falls Men's Basketball Program and head coach Chris Johnson will host a series of summer basketball camps for players of all ages and ability levels. The USF camps will run from early June into August at the newly air conditioned Stewart Center on the USF campus.
Campers attending the camps will have the opportunity to improve their game in a fun and positive environment with instruction from USF staff and current players, according to USF associate head men's basketball coach Nate Kaeding, who will serve as the camp director.
“We want to provide a rewarding, productive and memorable experience for all campers,” said Kaeding. “Our camps are designed to provide opportunities for all players to improve their skills through a number of different instructional sessions as well as many fun-filled contests and games,” he said.
Here is a rundown on the various camp opportunities:
“Junior COO” Basketball Camp – June 8-10, 9-11 a.m. (Boys and Girls)
On June 8-10, the Cougars will host its “Junior Coo” Basketball Camp, which is designed for boys and girls entering grades K-5. The camp session will run from 9-11 a.m. Both the USF men's and women's programs will host this beginning camp for youth at all ability levels. The cost is $50 and includes a t-shirt.
USF Instructional Day Camp – June 13-16, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Boys)
The Cougars men's program will host the USF Instructional Day Camp for K-5th grade boys from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 13-16. The camp, which costs $90 and includes a free t-shirt, will emphasize the basic fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, rebounding and team play. The camp includes fun-filled games and contests.
USF Offensive Skills Camp – June 13-16, 1-4 p.m. (Boys)
Open to fifth through tenth grade boys, the USF Offensive Skills Camp will emphasize advanced offensive skills such as shooting off the catch/bounce, one-on-one breakdown moves, post/perimeter footwork and more. Campers will have the chance to improve their offensive skills set, while gaining a greater understanding of what it takes to be a complete offensive player. The camp, which includes competitive games and contests, has a registration cost of $90. Campers will receive a camp T-shirt.
USF Combined Instructional Day/Offensive Skills Camp – June 13-16, 9-12 a.m., 1-4 p.m. (Boys)
Fifth and sixth grade boys who can't get enough basketball will have the option to attend both the instructional day camp and offensive skills camp at a reduced price of $135. Campers are responsible for their own lunch and will receive a camp t-shirt.
USF Team Camp – June 17-18 (Boys)
USF's team camp for high school teams will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 17-18. Each team will be guaranteed four games over the two-day camp in the air conditioned Stewart Center. In this camp, teams will compete at two different levels (varsity and junior varsity) in a round robin format against comparable competition among teams. In the past, participating teams have come from South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and North Dakota. Camp registration is $325 with a $100 deposit required. Dorm housing n additional change. Paper registration only as online registration is not available.
USF Elite Camp – August 2 – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
USF's Elite Camp is designed for student-athletes (rising 9th-12th graders) who are interested in playing basketball at the collegiate level. Campers will receive teaching and instruction from current and former college coaches and players in a highly intense environment. In this camp, USF staff will use a variety of methods including drill stations, individual instruction, and 5-on-5 games to provide student-athletes a glimpse into an NCAA DII basketball program. Registration for the camp will be $50, which includes a lunch and camp T-shirt.
