MANKATO, Minn. – Suffering the first dual loss of their inaugural season to a conference opponent, University of Sioux Falls Swimming dropped a 132-76 decision to Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon. After their final dual of the season, USF holds a 4-2 record as they turn their focus to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships in Rochester, Minn. on Feb. 6-10.
The Cougars were shut out in individual wins, but took second in 12 of the 14 swimming events.
Maike Doerr and
Ingelin Lima each registered three individual runner-up finishes with a relay second place time.
Allison Eppinga and
Michelle Hoffin recorded two individual runner-up finishes while Eppinga added a pair of relay second place performances and Hoffin one more.
Eppinga, Hoffin, Doerr, and Lima combined for 1:53.81 in the 200 yard medley relay, taking second in the opening event. Doerr then started her individual performances with a 2:02.73 in the 200 free, before taking second in the 200 butterfly (2:18.41) and 5:33.69 in the 500 free.
In the 100 backstroke, Eppinga logged the first of her two runner-up times, clocking a 1:00.23, then followed it with a 2:10.68 in the 200 back, which was followed by Hoffin in third. Lima was edged for the 50 freestyle title with a 24.85-second time and she posted a second-place finish in the 100 free at 56.16 seconds.
Hoffin clocked a 1:14.00 in the 100 breaststroke to take second place, and was followed by Brianna Lavelle in third. Hoffman and Lavelle posted a 2-3 finish in the 200 individual medley with Hoffin turning in a 2:16.69 time.
Closing the meet, Eppinga, Lavelle,
Karlie Tiede, and
Kyjana Webber swam the 200 free relay in a 1:44.74 to take second place.
Webber added third place finishes in the 100 back, 50 free and 100 free to add three points for the Cougars in each event. Tiede took third in the 100 butterfly, then added fourth place finishes with times in the 50 free and 100 free.
