SIOUX FALLS – In the second matchup ever between University of Sioux Falls Swimming and Augustana, the Cougars remained unbeaten against their crosstown rival with a 148-114 win on Saturday. USF improved to 2-2 in duals with a 2-1 record against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams.
The Cougars won eight individual events and swept the two relays en route to their 34-point victory.
Ingelin Lima was big for the Cougars taking three individual races and swimming a leg on the 200 medley relay.
Maike Doerr and
Gigi Bario each won a pair of individual races then swam legs on the Cougars' winning relays.
Lima swept the freestyle sprints, taking the 50-yard free in a season-best 24.48 seconds and the 100 free in 54.45 seconds. For her third individual crown, Lima clocked a 59.23-second run in the 100 butterfly, winning by more than a second.
After a runner-up finish in the 200 free, Doerr recorded the winning time in the 200 fly, winning in 2:14.22. She picked up her second win with a 2:15.20 time in the 200 individual medley.
Gigi Bario swept the backstroke events and scored for the winning medley relay team and placed third in the 100 fly. Bario clocked a 1:00.77 to win the 100 back, nearly winning by two seconds, then took the 200 back by more than three with a 2:11.34 time.
After a narrow defeat in the 100 breaststroke,
Chantal Kasch provided the Cougars with their eighth individual win. Kasch dropped the 100 breast by .08 seconds before returning the favor with a 2:28.91 winning time in the 200 breast.
Bario, Kasch, Lima and
Jenna Krahn opened the meet with a dominant victory in the 200 medley relay, clocking a 1:50.30 to win by more than two seconds. Bario split a 28.28 in the backstroke, followed by Kasch's 31.56 in the breaststroke. Lima turned in a 25.99 in the butterfly and Krahn gave USF the victory with a 24.47 time in the freestyle anchor.
USF's 800 free relay was a thrilling come-from-behind victory as Doerr erased a deficit and completed the Cougars' winning time of 7:56.61.
Nina Groene led off in 1:59.35,
Evelyn VanDeMark followed in 2:01.28, Krahn clocked a 1:59.43 before Doerr's anchor leg. The sophomore from St. Ingbert, Germany posted a 1:56.55 split, two seconds faster than any other swimmer in the field.
The Cougars wrapped up their dual schedule for the 2017 calendar year and return to action at the Rochester Invite on Dec. 1-3 in Rochester, Minn.
