GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Sioux Falls Tennis Team had a solid effort across the board as the Cougars picked up a 9-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D.
"I was really pleased with our competitive fire and hard work today," said USF head coach
Kevin Grebin, whose team will face Bemidji State on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. "We really had a solid day all around. Everyone stepped up with solid efforts," he said.
The Cougars rolled up a 6-0 advantage in singles and also won all three doubles matches as they won 24-of-31 doubles. In singles, USF picked up straight set wins at all six spots, winning 73-of-86 games. Leading the way was USF's seniors
Kara Bunkers and
Abby Seigenthaler, who both moved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in league play on the season. Seigenthaler did not lose a single game and Bunkers just one. Both have won three straight matches.
Kylie Simons improved to 2-5 and 1-4 in conference play as she won in straight sets with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Whitney Erickson of Minnesota Crookston. At #2
Tianna Duda picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory as she is now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in league play. At #5
Kelsie Sanders improved to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in league play with her straight set win. At #6
Cortney McCans is now 3-1 overall and 3-1 in league play with her victory.
At #1 doubles, Bunkers and Simons improved to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in league play with an 8-5 victory. At #2 Seigenthaler and Duda are now 2-1 overall and 2-1 in league play with an 8-0 decision. The #3 doubles squad of McCans and
Marie Schmitz is now 2-0 overall and 2-0 in league with an 8-2 decision.
