SIOUX FALLS – Sioux Falls Sports Radio KWSN FM 98.1/AM 1230 and University of Sioux Falls Athletics have reached a radio partnership agreement for a three-year period which will continue a 25-year relationship.
The agreement makes Sioux Falls Sports Radio KWSN FM 98.1/AM 1230, an affiliate of Midwest Communications, the exclusive radio station for Cougar football and basketball from 2017-18 to 2019-20. The new agreement includes coverage of USF regular season and post season football, as well as all NSIC men's and women's basketball games. All games will be carried live and streamed on the internet on KWSN FM 98.1/AM 1230. Fans will be able to listen to the games at www.usfcougars.com.
"We are excited to continue our long and mutually beneficial association with KWSN," said USF Director of Athletics
Josh Snyder. "With USF Athletics growing and on the move, this agreement gives us a flagship radio station to provide live broadcasts to our alumni and fans."
The relationship between Sioux Falls Sports Radio KWSN FM 98.1/AM 1230 and USF dates back to 1993, when the initial coverage included USF Football. Since 2011, the partnership has evolved to include the broadcasting of men's and women's basketball games.
"It's an honor to continue our relationship with the University and be the flagship station for USF Athletics. It's a perfect partnership between two organizations who have had a long association," said Craig Mattick, Brand Manager/Sports Director of KWSN and Midwest Communications.
For the 20th straight year, veteran broadcaster Tom Frederick will serve as "Voice of the Cougars." He will be joined during the football season by color commentator Tim Hiatt.
Fans can tune into the first broadcast when USF, the defending NSIC champions, visit NSIC North champions Minnesota-Duluth at 6 p.m., on Thursday, August 31. Hosted by Frederick, USF's pre-game football show will start at 5:30 p.m. USF hosts its home conference opener 10 days later against Northern State on Military Appreciation Day Saturday, Sept. 9 at Bob Young Field of the USF Athletic Complex. The pre-game radio show begins at 5:30 p.m., with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
The USF men's and women's basketball teams open play in November. With each basketball broadcast, Frederick will host a pre-game show 15 minutes prior to game-time.
