MANKATO, Minn. – Battling the preseason favorite and only nationally ranked team in the league, University of Sioux Falls Soccer suffered a 3-0 loss at No. 14 Minnesota State on Friday afternoon. The Cougars experienced their first conference loss of the season, dropping their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference record to 2-1-1 and their overall mark to 3-3-1.
USF was held to four shots with
Lindsey Power recording two shots and the only shot on goal in the 28th minute. Minnesota State (5-1-0, 3-0-0 NSIC) tested USF goalkeeper
Morgan Perkins with 15 shots on goal and she saved 12, the second most saves of her career. Midfielders
Morgan Lovato and
Lauren LaFavre each recorded one shot, but neither was able to put it on goal.
Freshman
DeLynne Zevenbergen came on for Perkins in the 78th minute and she made her first career save, stopping the only shot she faced in the final 12 minutes of the game.
The Cougars return to the USF Sports Complex to host Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
