SIOUX FALLS – Dropping their second consecutive game, University of Sioux Falls Soccer suffered a 1-0 loss to Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars fall to 3-4-1 on the year with a 2-2-1 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Cougars struggled to keep possession but with a solid effort from goalkeeper
Morgan Perkins, who finished with five saves, the Cougars were still locked in a scoreless tie entering the 69th minute. After a foul was called on USF, the Golden Bears sent a free kick into the box and after it was cleared by the Cougars, another serve went in. After bouncing around, CSP's Leah Johnson headed it into the back of the net with just more than 20 minutes to play.
McKayla Philippi nearly gave the Cougars the lead five minutes prior to Concordia-St. Paul's goal.
Lily McKown made a run and crossed the ball into the 18-yard box where Philippi made a diving header, but the CSP keeper tipped the ball away, barely keeping it out of the net.
Beyond Philippi's chance, the Cougar offense struggled, managing three total shots and
Claire Radatz put the Cougars' first shot on frame in the final minute of the first half.
Sioux Falls head to North Dakota for two games next weekend, facing Minot State on Saturday, Sept. 30 and University of Mary on Sunday, Oct. 1.
